After virtually 75 years of operation, Alliant Vitality’s Lansing Producing Station — a coal-fired energy plant — retired on the finish of 2022. Now, it’s being demolished via a sequence of implosions.
The primary implosion occurred on Sunday and was carried out by contractor Independence Excavating. It focused the power’s stack and baghouse. The method went as deliberate, stated Alliant spokesperson Morgan Hawk.
The businesses coordinated with native officers to take applicable security precautions, which included closing close by roads and stopping river visitors on the Mississippi River.
The remaining construction — the boiler home — is anticipated to be imploded this fall. The date and time haven’t been decided, Hawk stated. Alliant continues to be deciding plans for future use of the location.
