ATLANTA, Ga. – 4 inmates have been charged with arson after they allegedly set a hearth in Troup County Jail on Wednesday, officers stated.

Based on authorities, detention officers with the Troup County Sheriff’s Workplace had been alerted to a attainable fireplace in one of many inmate housing items within the jail on Oct. 4. When deputies confirmed a considerable amount of smoke, they needed to evacuate the unit and later discovered inmate uniforms smoldering on the ground in that unit, they stated.

“It was decided that inmates broken a lightweight fixture and configured it in a fashion to start out a hearth which they used to ignite the jumpsuits,” the sheriff’s workplace stated in an announcement.

Jason Cofield and Travis Preston Shelnutt had been charged with arson within the first diploma, legal harm within the first diploma, interference with authorities property, and riot in a penal Institute. Michael Dennis Cornett and Edward Anthony Facille had been charged with riot in a penal Institute, deputies stated.
